Rick Perry drops 2012 campaign for president, endorses Newt Gingrich
“I believe Newt is a conservative visionary who can transform this country,” Perry said.
Making what he called a “strategic retreat,” the Texan obliquely referred to Gingrich’s checkered personal life just hours before an interview with the former House speaker’s second wife was to speak out in a TV interview.

kim kardashian family magazine launch
The reality TV family are said to be close to signing a deal with American Media Inc. - who currently own numerous publications, including Star, National Enquirer and Shape - for their own print media outlet, which would feature heavy involvement from sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney and their mother Kris Jenner, though an independent editor would be appointed.
Kris Humphries not suing Kim for $10 million
Kris Humphries Not Suing Kim Kardashian Over E! Show Portrayal - Credit: Donald Bowers/Getty; Marianna Massey/WireImage, During their 72-day marriage, Kris Humphries made plenty of money as Mr. Kim Kardashian — which might explain why the 26-year-old NBA player has no intention to sue his soon-to-be ex.
Reports surfaced earlier this week claiming Humphries was planning to file a $10 million lawsuit against Kardashian, 31, because he expects to be portrayed in a negative light on the new season of Kourtney & Kim Take New York.
Despite the claims, sources tell Gossip Cop and TMZ that the out-of-work athlete has “absolutely no plans” to sue the E! reality star. Though he’s worried about his reputation, Humphries understands he has no control over the final cut, a source adds.
The move is somewhat surprising, given that Humphries teased Kardashian about her famous figure in a sneak peek from Sunday’s premiere episode — just one of many incidents where the NBA star belittled his then-wife.

That was the final bid by an unknown buyer for the one-cent copper coin minted in 1793, the first year the United States produced its own coins. Its sale was one of the biggest deals at the coin show and annual convention of the Florida United Numismatists at the Orange County Convention Center.
The coin was made at the Mint in Philadelphia in 1793, the first year that the US made its own coins. Heritage officials said in a news release that the name of the buyer was not revealed but that he was 'a major collector.' One of the coin's earliest owners was a well-known Baltimore banker, Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.

Heidi Klum jeans
Heidi Klum jeans. Heidi Klum dressed like an angst teen from the mid '90s while running errands in Hollywood on Sunday and I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or take a torch to her insured legs and burn those hideous pants right off her. The supermodel usually looks stunning no matter what she wears, but this pair of extremely flared jeans might be her worst look ever. They're so wide in the leg that Heidi probably has yet to realize that there's a homeless person or five living in the folds of her god awful pants, snacking on cupcakes her kids are sneaking them.

lost world sea creatures
Even in the eye-popping world of deep-sea vents, the Antarctic discoveries stand out, with the unfamiliar species of crabs found crowded in piles around the warm waters emanating from the seafloor. Many of the animals found at the vents have never been found at hydrothermal vents in other oceans, Rogers said. "To see these animals in such huge densities was just amazing," Rogers told LiveScience.
In the dayless world of deep-sea vents, energy comes not from the sun but from the hydrothermal energy generated in the oceanic crust.
The yeti crabs seem to cultivate "gardens" of bacteria on their chests, which are covered with hairy tendrils. These bacterial mats almost certainly provides the crabs with sustenance, Rogers said. In turn, predatory seven-armed sea stars stalk the periphery of the vents, snacking on unfortunate crabs. [See video and photos from the vents]
"We were absolutely stunned to see the animal communities, because they were so different from the hydrothermal vents seen elsewhere," Rogers told LiveScience. He and his colleagues reported their results today (Jan. 3) in the journal PLoS Biology.

A North Carolina woman who got married last summer after a poolside accident left her paralyzed isn't walking yet, but she hasn't given up on learning to move on her own again.
Rachelle Friedman Chapman is stronger after training for almost three weeks in October at Project Walk, a spinal cord injury recovery center in Carlsbad, Calif. And the 26-year-old from Knightdale, near Raleigh, hopes to return for more training that could help her walk for the first time since the accident just weeks before her original wedding date.
"You see people standing up out of their wheelchair, people who are relearning how to walk," Chapman said in a recent phone interview.
It was on May 23, 2010, that Chapman was pushed into a pool by a friend at her bachelorette party in Virginia Beach, Va. She fell into the shallow end and awkwardly hit the cement bottom. The injury to her vertebra left her with no feeling from the chest down and feeling on the inside of her arms but not the outside. Her wedding had been scheduled for a few weeks after the party, but she and her fiance postponed it by more than a year.
She has never revealed the name of the friend, who was a bridesmaid when the wedding was finally held in July 2011. The cruel timing of her injury and her enduring positivity landed her story in newspapers, websites and television reports around the world.
Duchess Kate to turn 30
Kate Middleton must be pleased she has a party planner for a sister, as Pippa's in charge of her upcoming 30th birthday celebrations, with a little help from Prince Harry as well.
A royal source told Grazia that Pippa and Harry have "secretly arranged" an 80s-themed bash this weekend with cocktails and karaoke. Sounds like our kind of party.
It is thought Kate will make her film premiere debut with William on the eve of her bday, seeing War Horse at Odeon Leicester Square before heading to a charity dinner. Then it'll be party time.
The source said: "In many ways, this is going to be Kate's last chance to let go like she did back in the old days when she and William first met.
Vietnam Wall misspelled name
Vietnam Wall misspelled name, Sgt. Stephen Hiett Phillips was 23 and about to become a father when he died, two days after arriving in Vietnam.Phillips, who listed Springfield as his home of record, was reported killed in action July 18, 1965. He was felled by small arms fire in an unidentified province in South Vietnam, government records say.But two soldiers from Phillips' regiment say part of the record has a fundamental flaw.
Larry Thompson said, "They spelled his name wrong."
The mistake literally is carved in stone.
On the black granite wall at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., Phillips' first name is inscribed as "SHEPHEN."
The error, repeated on various websites and copies of the Wall, appears to stem from a list of Vietnam war dead dating to January 1967.
"One doesn't honor a person by misspelling their name," said Pete Neumann, who has contacted a variety of federal agencies and nonprofits in an effort to correct the error.
So far, the effort has been a "total, absolute frustration,"he said. "I'm just trying to do the right thing for a fellow soldier ...

Norway herring ashore
Jens Christian Holst of Norway’s Institute of Marine Research says a combination of several factors was the likely explanation. Locals also started pondering how to clean up the estimated 20 tons of dead fish on the beach in Kvaenes, near Tromsoe, north of the Arctic Circle, before it decayed. But before they could start, the fish disappeared.
This was the sight along a beach in northern Norway on New Year’s Eve, after 20 tons of dead herring washed ashore. Is this the end of days? Should we start running around, screaming about the Mayan calendar? No, you fools: Grab some brine and wine and get those herring pickled – stat!
While the sight of thousands of dead fish is surely a strange one, experts have some quite reasonable explanations that don’t involve a shred of the supernatural, thank you very much. The going theories include a shift in fresh water flows from nearby rivers, the herring pushed ashore by predators, or the school being washed up after a freak storm with hurricane-strength winds that struck the coast not long before.
Elton John is the subject of an upcoming biopic, and the singer knows which artist he'd like to play him - Justin Timberlake. The singer/actor is John's first choice for the title role, he told the Los Angeles Times.
"I've got a wish list of people," he told the paper. "No. 1 on my wish list is Justin Timberlake, because he played me before in a David LaChapelle video of 'Rocket Man' and was superb" (Rolling Stone points out that Timberlake actually appeared as John in the music video for "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore").
John also shared some details about the film. He told the LA Times that it will be a "jukebox musical" that may include a couple of new songs.

Scientists grow sperm in laboratory dish, Scientists have made a major breakthrough that could soon see human sperm grown in the laboratory. The development opens up the possibility of infertile men being able to father their own children rather than using donor sperm.
Researchers in Germany and Israel were able to grow mouse sperm from a few cells in a laboratory dish.
In a world first a team headed by Professor Stefan Schlatt, at Muenster University in Germany, were able to grow sperm by using germ cells. These are the cells in testicles that are responsible for sperm production.
Scientists grew the sperm by surrounding the germ cells in a special compound called agar jelly to create an environment similar to that found in testicles.

Angelina Jolie must have had a hard time putting a bow on her Christmas present for Brad Pitt. The "Land of Blood and Honey" director gifted her longtime partner with a waterfall in California, as well as its surrounding land.
Sources say that the gift, given for the holidays as well as for Pitt's 48th birthday, was meant to invoke Frank Lloyd Wright's classic house, Fallingwater. Pitt and Jolie visited the 1935 home, built over a waterfall, in 2006. Pitt allegedly had been itching to see it ever since reading about it in an architectural history class in college.

Inmate escape fire truck
An official says an inmate escaped from a state prison in San Diego County by stealing the prison fire engine on New Year's Day.
Authorities are seeking 51-year-old Thomas Kelley, a convicted car thief who was jailed at Donovan state prison in November for a parole violation.
Prison spokesman Lt. Patrick Logan says Kelley worked as a firefighter at the prison near the Mexican border. He was discovered missing Sunday night from the minimum security section.
Logan says at about the same time, sheriff's deputies saw a fire engine being driven erratically about 10 miles from the prison. Prison officials say the driver fled when the truck was stopped.
Law enforcement officers are searching for a prisoner who stole a fire engine to escape from Richard J. Donovan state prison in Otay Mesa on New Year's Day.
Thomas Francis Kelly, 51, worked as a prison firefighter. He was locked up for a parole violation stemming from a 2008 car theft conviction, Lt. Patrick Logan of the state prison system said.
Kelley was in the minimum security section of the prison and scheduled to be released in December 2013. A prison representative said Kelley was on a 24 hour shift at the fire house, which is right outside secure grounds.
Kelley was last seen at around 6 p.m. and was reported missing during a head count about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Prison guards said Kelley went missing about the time sheriff's deputies saw a fire engine being driven inexpertly in Spring Valley, about 10 miles away from the border-close prison. The driver jumped out and ran when a deputy tried to stop it.
Sheriff's Lt. David Gilmore, however, said the fire engine was found unoccupied at a 7-Eleven at Jamacha Road and Elkelton Boulevard in Spring Valley. Authorities searched from the air and the ground, but were unable to locate him.
It's been a while since preacher Ted Haggard made headlines. You may recall that back in 2006, a male escort claimed he had sex with Haggard and that Haggard bought drugs from him. Haggard denied having sex with the man and said he only bought the drugs, but didn't actually use them.
Either way, it did some serious damage to his image...for a while, that is. "I went through a scandal five years ago, and most marital problems aren't nearly as serious as that one was and we survived it," Haggard said.
Not only did Haggard survive, but he now wants the world to know he is thriving. Audiences will soon see him, his wife and their kids on ABC's "Celebrity Wife Swap."

Saudi Arabia to forbid men from selling lingerie, Saudi Arabia said Monday it will begin enforcing a law that allows only females to work in women's lingerie and apparel stores, despite disapproval from the country's top cleric.
The 2006 law banning men from working in female apparel and cosmetic stores has never been put into effect, partly because of view of hard-liners in the religious establishment, who oppose the whole idea of women working where men and women congregate together, like malls.
Saudi women -- tired of having to deal with men when buying undergarments -- have boycotted lingerie stores to pressure them to employ women. The government's decision to enforce the law requiring that goes into effect Thursday.

In late November, Bills wide receiver Steve Johnson shouldered the blame for the team's loss to the Jets, noting that his penalized touchdown celebration cost his team both field position and points.
On Sunday at Gillette Stadium, Johnson proved he still hadn't learned his lesson, as he was benched in the first quarter following another flagged celebration in the end zone. Granted, Sunday's antics were far less controversial than the previous one, but they were enough to end his season.
Johnson made a terrific diving catch in the right side of the end zone to give the Bills a 14-0 lead against the Patriots. He then stood up and lifted his jersey to show the fans that he had written "Happy New Year" on his undershirt. Johnson's teammates, as well as the officiating crew, were not very amused, as he drew a 15-yard personal foul penalty and was benched for the remainder of the game by head coach Chan Gailey.

Lindsay lohan sue dubai
The "Mean Girls" actress, 25, plans to ring in 2012 quietly at home, TMZ reported.
Lohan's spokesman Steve Honig told TMZ, "Lindsay is not going to Dubai, nor had she ever considered doing so. She will be spending New Year's Eve in Los Angeles with a few close friends and family."
Police were called to a New Year's Day disturbance at Lindsay Lohan's Los Angeles home last night - but for once it wasn't the actress causing the drama. Ms Lohan, 25, called officers after a man allegedly approached her front door trying to make contact with the star. When the man allegedly refused to leave, Lindsay called police who arrived on the scene and arrested him. The white man aged approximately 40-50 years-old wearing a baseball cap was pictured being escorted from the property by LAPD officers.

Donna simpson 1,000
Three years ago, Simpson was thrilled to be so heavy, saying in a British newspaper "I love being fat; I wouldn't even mind weighing 1,000 pounds."
However, this 44 year-old mother of two eventually became fed up with it. "I realized that I was their fantasy," she said to MSNBC. "Here I was getting bigger and bigger, and they had their thin wives, with 2 1/2 kids and a picket fence." She decided to get healthy - she moved back to Akron, where she grew up, and began the journey to get healthy. Her website, www.officialdonnasimpson.com, turned away from prerecorded videos of her, and turned into a record of her journey. "I'm not trying to be a size 4," she said. "I'm not trying to be a thin-mint. I just want to be normal and more active."
600 pound Donna Simpson website
He wanted Simpson to use his money to become as large as possible, and he got excited knowing he helped feed the 600-pound woman, she said.
"He didn't even need to see me," she said. "Just the fact that he was feeding me was enough of a thrill for him."
For years, 600-pound Donna Simpson was involved in the "feederism" community - that is - a community of people with a fat fetish. People would pay her $19 per month to watch her eat. One person from Germany sent her credit cards with instructions to order take out. Another from California wired her $200 a week to buy groceries with, and then would call to hear what she bought.
Meat eating panda video
Meat eating panda video. BEIJING: A camera at a Chinese nature reserve has spied a wild panda eating meat. Pandas spend most of their days eating bamboo.
Staff at the Wanglong Nature Reserve in southwest Sichuan province set up the camera after noticing dead animals with chew marks. It was not known if the panda had killed the animals. The Pingwu County forestry bureau says the panda appears to be healthy and strong. Conservation group WWF says only about 1% of a panda's diet is meat or plants that aren't bamboo.
The panda looked like he has been caught out helping himself to a forbidden snack. And perhaps this panda realized he had given away a secret kept under wraps for years as he is captured red-handed tucking into a dead antelope. It was previously thought the creatures were strictly herbivores.

Rhino horns poach gold cocaine
Rhino horns poach gold cocaine.Home to 90 percent of the rhinos in Africa and the largest rhino population in the world, rhino poaching in South Africa has reached record proportions, with 50 percent of rhinos being taken from within Kruger National Park.
Whenever there is a market, someone is willing to provide the goods, even illegally. Touted as a cure for several ailments, rhino horn is in such high demand that its street value "has soared to about $65,000 a kilogram, making it more expensive than gold, platinum and in many cases cocaine," says Reuters UK.
To meet demand says the national park service, a record number of 443 rhinos were killed for their horns in South Africa in 2011. This shocking statistic stands more starkly when compared to statistics in 2007. In that year, the number of rhinos poached in South Africa was thirteen. In 2008, the number jumped to 83, then 123 by 2009. By 2010, 333 rhinos were killed with a further 443 rhinos losing their lives to poachers this year. Almost 1,000 rhinos in four years. Why the sudden explosion?

Caviar Russian morgue
Caviar Russian morgue. — Even people who think caviar is to die for might lose their appetite when it’s stored in a hospital morgue.
But that’s where St. Petersburg police found a huge stash of the delicacy this week — 175 kilograms (385 pounds) stored in the refrigerated space where cadavers are kept.
A morgue employee and a businessman were arrested after the Wednesday discovery, but police said Friday the matter is still being investigated and it is unclear if the men will be charged.
